Senior Research Technologist - (SME in Stress Corrosion Cracking)
Job Introduction
The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is pleased to provide a vacancy for a Senior Research Technologist (SME in Stress Corrosion Cracking) based at Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. The position is to support the Reactor Operations Support (ROS) business area.
The ROS business area provides a vital service to operational reactors and the new build programme. As a specialist in corrosion, you would be joining an established team investigating, analysing and resolving interesting technical issues for a wide range of UK and foreign customers as well as National Programmes of work for UK Government. In support of NNLs mission to strengthen collaboration with academia there will be additional opportunities to engage with UK universities.
Role Responsibility
- Provide a reactor focused corrosion consultancy capability for internal and external customers
- Deliver work packages from the development of technical scope through to delivery of customer reports
- Contribute to the ongoing development of NNL reactor corrosion capability through interaction with key stakeholders
- Develop strategic relationships with new customers to meet business growth targets
- Management of multi-disciplinary research programmes
- Internal peer review
- Supervision of academic research
- Preparation of costed proposals
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Skills/Qualifications
• Postgraduate qualification in a corrosion related discipline, or relevant experience
• In-depth knowledge of aqueous corrosion phenomena
• Proven track record in applying your scientific knowledge and experience in the area of corrosion to a range of technical issues
• Knowledge of all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle with an emphasis on the operation and decommissioning of nuclear power stations
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
• Experience in the areas of ion exchange, radiation chemistry, materials irradiation, and/or computer modelling
• Knowledge of nuclear regulatory processes
• Experience in bid preparation
• Membership of Professional Institution
