As a functional advisor the Accountant is a key member of the finance team who provides financial services and support to a range of budget holders. Key responsibilities will include maintaining accounting records in line with NNL policy, supporting forecasting and budgeting, month end duties and regular review and reporting. The Accountant reports directly into and deputises for the Senior Accountant.
The location for these role is flexible and can be based at Risley, Preston, Sellafield, Workington and Culham.
Role Responsibility
Main Responsibilities for Accountant:
- Accounting lead across a range of cost/ profit centres providing key financial support to budget holders through regular communication and attendance at team meetings.
- Support the development of quick, accurate and accessible management information for all key stakeholders with a range of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports. This will include the reporting of both financial and non-financial key performance indicators.
- Support the ongoing forecasting and budgeting process within the company. This will include attendance of project / cost centre reviews, supporting micro level forecasting and the macro consolidation to work stream and ultimately company level.
- Cost control and governance – to ensure that all costs are managed and controlled in line with NNL’s internal control policies and procedures.
- Maintaining accurate Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet accounting records for the supported area covering revenue, costs, assets and liabilities. Close liaison with senior management (Account Director / Head of Capability / Head of Function) is required.
- Regular reporting to external stakeholders (customers / government / bank).
- Assistance in the development and implementation of processes, controls and changes to the ERP system.
- Financial education of non-financial stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with all key stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Criteria for Accountant:
- Part Qualified Level or above.
- Very strong excel skills and ability to work with large quantities of data essential.
- Experience of providing financial support to operational managers.
- Strong communicator, able to elicit information from stakeholders at all levels.
- Analytical mind with the ability to translate detailed and complex information into concise and coherent management information.
- Must be diligent and use own initiative to resolve issues.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships within the finance team and across the business.
- Knowledge of major Finance ERP systems (Business World would be a bonus).
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good knowledge of other MS Office packages Word and PowerPoint.
