To join the NNL graduate programme you will have graduated or be on course to graduate with a 2:1 or higher in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology, Industrial Design or a related subject.

You will have the right to work in the UK, have lived in the UK for at least 5 years and be able to achieve SC level security clearance. 

You will be naturally curious with the drive and determination to discover more – about yourself and our business.

Role Responsibility

As a Human Factors consultant, we build on your graduate knowledge and will teach you how to define, implement, test, and justify the role of the operator to provide confidence in our current and future operations. The opportunities available to innovate and diversify the use of nuclear technologies has expanded rapidly. However, these new applications must be underpinned by robust safety and security arguments.

We are looking to develop you into a confident consultant who can work with other disciplines to optimise the design of future technologies that will support in the delivery of the UKs net zero target, the management of environmental restoration and hazard remediation activities. All play a part in reducing the risks associated with historical UK nuclear operations. 
You will develop strong critical thinking, communication and report writing skills

As a member of the Graduate programme you will have the support of our experienced early careers team, your line manager, mentor, colleagues, and fellow graduates. 

NNL are at the forefront of nuclear research & development in the UK and beyond with a wide range of projects that require creative Human Factors support and we are looking for someone who wants to make a difference to these projects.  

Your programme starts with a tailored, induction programme to welcome you into the business and to get to know your graduate cohort. The Induction will help you understand the breadth of what NNL does and to provide an overview of your development programme and our expectations.

You will then embark on your two-year graduate scheme undertaking a programme of activities designed to help you develop your understanding of the nuclear industry and grow as an individual, these include;

• Understanding NNL, the nuclear sector and nuclear professionalism
• The application of professional knowledge and skill
• Personal development and understanding your own personal brand
• Collaboration and team working
• Understanding our customer and making effective decisions

You will complete your programme with a focussed training centre to support your seamless transition off the scheme to continue your career with NNL.

As part of the selection process for the graduate programme you should expect to complete online cognitive ability assessments. Successful candidates will be invited to attend an assessment centre which will assess technical and behavioural competencies. Assessment Centres for this role will be held in February / March 2023.  

You will start your graduate programme on the 4th September 2023.
