We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented Human Factors specialist to support the Human Factors team in integrating and applying Human Factors methods in a safety critical environment, advising and supporting the design and safety assessment process.  We are looking for someone who has experience in the technical delivery of projects, who can work as part of a team to deliver safety-based solutions and have the confidence to promote Human Factors best practice.  NNL are at the forefront of nuclear research & development in the UK and beyond with a wide range of projects that require creative Human Factors support and we are looking for someone who wants to join our team and make a difference to these projects.  There will also be an opportunity to apply and shape Human Factors practice in the nuclear industry and contribute to research in this area.

The team you will join is a dedicated, hard-working group who are passionate about the work they do. We can support hybrid and flexible working, the location for this role is flexible and can be based at Sellafield, Workington, Risley and Preston, although some travel will be necessary, to support business needs.

Role Responsibility

Main Responsibilities for Human Factors Consultant:

  • Technical delivery of projects in the Human Factors area to time, cost and quality.
  • Technical delivery of projects in the Human Factors area to meet customer requirements.
  • Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams addressing safety challenges.
  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to effect successful delivery of projects.
  • Contributing to the development of new capabilities for the Human Factors team, through innovative approaches and providing insight.
  • Developing and maintaining SQEP skills for Human Factors and continuing professional development.
  • Design and deliver Human Factors awareness training.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Human Factors Consultant:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent level of demonstrable technical capability.
  • Experience in integrating and applying Human Factors methods.
  • Strong level of knowledge and experience and proven track record in technical delivery in Human Factors.
  • Proven ability to act both independently and part of a team. 
  • Strong communication skills, including remote working.
  • Strong teamworking skills.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).

 Desirable Criteria for Human Factors Consultant:

  • Experience of applying Human Factors methods in a safety critical environment.
  • Preferably Chartered Membership of a professional institution, or working towards.
  • Good networking skills.
