The role of the Network Technology Specialist is to work on Assurance to Design process, document and implement IT network, and related solutions; collaborating with other Architects, Technical teams, Cybersecurity and PMs.
As a member of the Architecture Team, you will be reporting to the Lead Architect with a dotted reporting line to the Infrastructure Manager. This role will be responsible for the architecture, implementation and operation aspects of network infrastructure including troubleshooting for the NNL’s IT environment.
Role Responsibility
Main Responsibilities for Network Technology Specialist:
- Maintain the current environment, detecting / discovering deficiencies (performance, security, etc.) and ensuring that fixes are implemented in line with policies.
- Develop and implement network and security architecture patterns describing reusable approaches to new technologies. Accountable for the technical security of the NNL network estate.
- Maintain an overall perspective on network technology and security issues, events, and activities, with an understanding of their wider implications and long-term impact. This could include determining patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps, and vision statements focusing on outcomes, solutions, and activities.
- Design innovative solutions in accordance with our architecture principles. Produce HLD’s, LLD’s, Target State Architectures, Roadmaps, Blueprints, Build Books, Test Plans.
- Document or derive business, and technical requirements, including security aspects, so it will be approved by ARB, TDA and CISO.
- Apply Secure by Design principles. Be proactive and continually improve the performance and security of our technology estate.
- Create proof of concepts and undertake solution assessments / fit gap analysis. Build and implement small to medium scale solutions and or take the lead for large-scale solutions.
- Ensure deployed solutions are aligned to functional and non-functional requirements and provide technical sign-off for service transition.
- Work with 3rd party suppliers to resolve issues and maintain network service levels. Support / analyse financial and operational considerations as required.
- Execute & inspire others to execute network & security standards, policies, and principles.
- Mentor and develop junior network engineers.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Criteria for Network Technology Specialist:
- Highly competent in the implementation and maintenance of switching and routing infrastructure (e.g. Aruba) & firewalls (e.g. Checkpoint / Fortigates).
- Competent in designing resilient network & secure system architectures through the application of patterns and principles, to meet user needs whilst managing risks - demonstrable track record working in similar roles in complex hybrid environments.
- Experienced in working with network service providers to resolve issues & establish new technical capabilities. Ideally will have experience of working with third-party NOC services.
- Has a strong conceptual and practical understanding of the Microsoft Cloud, IT network technologies, Office 365 platform and business productivity tools.
- Able to apply network security measures, comfortable with security tools, network security and infrastructure technologies.
- Working knowledge and understanding of information security, project and technical governance methodologies, can adhere to governance requirements and ensuring that risks are appropriately mitigated or accepted as appropriate.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Network Technology Specialist:
- Some experience of turning business problems into technical designs by designing systems that are characterised by managing levels of risk, balancing business and technical complexity and making meaningful impact.
- Proficient in evaluating the security of network systems and architectures using both manual and automated techniques (e.g. via using vulnerability scanners) to identify security issues.
- Practical understanding of various architecture methodologies advantageous e.g., TOGAF, SABSA.
- Experienced in scoping and working with third party penetration testers for an accredited or regulated environment.
- Network certification, e.g. ACSA, ACSP, CCSA, CCSE, CCIE or CCNP certification
- Previous experience of delivering improvement to network performance, resilience and availability.
