NNL are currently seeking a Senior Security Advisor to manage delivery of its Nuclear Site Security Plans across 3 sites.  This is a position of responsibility within NNL and a Subject Matter Expert in nuclear security. They are responsible for ensuring that NNL maintains an effective nuclear security regime meeting legislative, regulatory and Company expectations in accordance with our SCITEC values and behaviours.  This includes management of a team (currently ten) of Security Support Officers and Vetting Advisors.

Role Responsibility

Main Responsibilities for Senior Security Advisor:

  • Management and leadership of a team of security personnel and deputizing for the Security and Resilience Manager when required.
  • Primary point of contact for advice relating to nuclear and conventional security issues that may affect NNL by supporting and managing implementation of legislation, regulatory, site standards, policies and procedures within their area(s) of responsibility.
  • Identify and evaluate the security risks to NNL’s assets. They shall identify and evaluate the threats and vulnerabilities to NNL security arrangements, including the Physical Protection Systems, and ensure adequate arrangements are in place to manage the risks.
  • As a Subject Matter Expert, maintain an up to date knowledge of security options and solutions, conduct cost benefit analyses to determine the cost effectiveness of security solutions and make recommendations to meet NNL’s security objectives.
  • Develop and implement security arrangements to support security operations, project execution, plant maintenance and repair, and contingency requirements through the production and approval of Security Plans, Temporary Security Plans, Temporary Security Arrangements and Security Modification Proposals.
  • Develop, gain approval and implement operational security arrangements for new security capabilities and ensure existing arrangements remain valid and reflective of industry and business relevant good practice.
  • Ensure all events or incidents falling within their area(s) of responsibility are appropriately managed including reporting, investigation and implementation of corrective action.
  • Develop working relationships with relevant colleagues and stakeholders, including Site Licence Companies, the Office for Nuclear Regulation, the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, and law enforcement agencies, including the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Pan-NNL Security initiatives on behalf of the Security and Resilience Manager.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Senior Security Advisor:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in working in a regulated environment, be detail orientated, and able to work to stringent deadlines, whilst maintaining discretion at all times.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to analyse and interpret complex information from several, sometimes conflicting sources, with a proven problem solving ability in order to make decisions based upon this information.
  • Experience of security decision making and security systems management.
  • Detailed knowledge of security requirements relating to the ONR Security Assessment Principles and experience in decision making under this framework.
  • Ability to communicate key information both verbal and written with customers, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain DV level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial, criminal record checks, interview plus 10 years of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Senior Security Advisor:

  • Detailed knowledge of security requirements relating to the ONR Security Assessment Principles and experience in decision making under this framework.
  • Experience of supporting delivery of a significant security project on the Sellafield site, including engagement with relevant Sellafield Ltd, CNC and other stakeholders.
  • Member of a Professional Organisation e.g. Security Institute.
  • Understanding of the UK national security structures relevant to the UK civil/ defence nuclear sectors.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of physical protection systems, their design, performance, industry developments and application.
  • Detailed knowledge of the threat to the UK Civil Nuclear Sector.
