The Technical Support Officer is responsible for the management and supervision of a number the facilities within the NNL’s Sellafield based Laboratories to allow the smooth and continued operation of these facilities; will be appointed as a Building Manager.
They will be responsible for ensuring NNL’s compliance with a number of requirements and regulations governing the nuclear industry and its relevant Site Licence Conditions and at this grade they will act as appointed person for a number of key roles
They will also be required to provide additional coverage and support across both Windscale and Central Laboratories to ensure adequate team resilience and flexibility.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in working in a regulated environment, detail orientated, and be able to work to stringent deadlines.
Role Responsibility
Main Responsibilities for Technical Support Officer (Building Management):
- Appointed as a Building Manager and Area Owner for the NNL’s Sellafield based Laboratories.
- Implement the standards and requirements for Fire Protection as appropriate ensuring compliance with Fire Safety Regulations.
- Appointed for key compliance roles including, but not exclusively: Fire Responsible Person, Legionella Responsible Person, Asbestos Co-Ordinator.
- Appointed for and provide support to the Emergency Response Teams (Building Controller/ Emergency Admin Support).
- Responsible for the compliance documentation within their area of responsibility.
- Ensure appropriate welfare facilities are available (including during emergencies).
- Ensure Building Control Points meet requirements.
- Ensure local emergency instructions and arrangements in the event of fire or site emergencies are compliant.
- Manage safety signs and signals.
- Responsible for Building Maintenance.
- Generate House Rules and oversight of Building Inductions.
- Attend relevant meetings including presenting and updating dashboards.
- Report activities which appear unsafe in accordance with approved programs or procedures.
- Building Controller duties – ensuring adequate cover.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Criteria for Technical Support Officer (Building Management):
- Knowledge of Asbestos, Legionella and Fire Regulations.
- GCSEs or equivalent in Math, English and Science.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent IT skills especially for spreadsheets, databases and word processing. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal records checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Technical Support Officer (Building Management):
- Experience of working in the nuclear sector.
- P405 Asbestos trained.
- Legionella Responsible person.
- NEBOSH General Certificate and Fire Safety.
